Did you know that Alberta was named not after Prince Albert (Queen Victoria's husband), but for his daughter, Princess Louise Alberta (Duchess of Argylle), who was named after her father? And yes, Lake Louise was named for her also.
Royal trivia aside, this is a magnificent part of our planet. Ask any Canadian to select several images representing their native land and one of them will undoubtedly be of the Canadian Rockies, probably in Banff or Jasper National Parks, Alberta. Another might well be of the Canadian prairies, likely also in Alberta.
I have made five trips through Alberta and can't wait to get back, probably in the summer of 2013 (I had to cancel a trip in 2011). The mountains are superlative, but the prairies have their own special beauty and interest.
