Sonora is a huge state, Mexico's second largest, and I have only explored a tiny corner of it.
The Deserts of Sonora region includes El Pinacate National Park near Sonoyta, and Ruta Dos (Mexico Highway 2) across the Colorado desert from Sonoyta to Mexicali. If and when danger along the border abates I would like to at least get to Puerto Penasco on the Gulf of California and some of the old Spanish missions inland.
