Washington has it all -- rain forests, deserts, glaciers, cities, islands, mountains, even active volcanoes. It has the major city of Seattle plus three national parks - Mount Rainier, Olympic, and North Cascades.
My first trip to Washington was when I was twelve years old, a family road-trip to the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. I have been going back almost every summer, poking into just about every part of the state. In the summer and fall of 2013 I intend to visit, and if necessary revisit, Mount Rainier until I get some panoramas that really do it justice. Similarly, I want to take some serious hikes into the North Cascades and on the Olympic Peninsula, and explore more of Seattle.
I have divided Washington into four regions, north-south slices following the topographic and climatic progression of coast, valley, mountains, and desert.
