Cathedral of St John the Baptist in Savannah

This impressive Catholic cathedral is descended from the first Catholic church in Georgia, founded by French emigres fleeing revolution in Haiti. The present building was brand new when badly damaged in the Great Fire of 1889, and finally finished again in 1900.

Although the Presbyterian congregation dates from 1755, the present church is an exact replica of the original built after Savannah's Great Fire of 1889. It is said to be modeled after Sir Christopher Wren's St Martin inthe Fields church in London.
