The east end of Bahia Honda State Park has a short nature trail with signs identifying native plants and explaining aspects of the local environment and ecology. Red mangrove at Bahia Honda Key

The arching roots of red mangrove provide shelter for young fish and protection against coastal erosion. In the twentieth centry much mangrove forest was destroyed during development of the Florida coast, but now its importance is widely recognized and it is protected.
