360° VR Panoramas of the Redwood National and State Parks
The Bald Hills
North of Redwood Creek, Redwood National Park, California

The long ridge north of Redwood Creek is crowned with a series of meadows, suggesting the name Bald Hills. The grasslands, locally known as prairies, alternate with forest. Just past the Lady Bird Johnson Grove there is a magnificent example of forest known (inaccurately) as Pine Point, where the Douglas fir rival the redwoods in size.

The prairies provide fine views over the southernmost unit of Redwood National Park. Native flora and fauna, most notably a herd of Roosevelt elk, are being restored. The ravages of past ruthless logging, mostly logging roads, are being repaired. Several hiking trails lead through the grasslands and down into the forest, including one to the Tall Trees Grove.
