Bixby Creek Bridge and Hurricane Point
On the Big Sur Coast, California

Bixby Creek Bridge is an icon of the California coast. Highway One soars across the canyon on the concrete arch bridge, then climbs to Hurricane Point. Virtually every tourist stops to take pictures at both of these viewpoints. The sloping hayfields between the bridge and the point are part of the Brazil Ranch.

This bridge is 714 feet long and soars 280 feet above the beach. It was built in 1931-32 and formed the final link in the modern highway to Big Sur. A complete seismic retrofit was completed in 2000.
