Beachfront properties in Cannon Beach

Beachfront properties in Cannon Beach

Cannon Beach is low key and tasteful, with weathered gray wooden buildings, no high rises, and none of the Coney Island feel of nearby Seaside. The attraction is mostly the beach itself, but also the art galleries and restaurants tucked into its small developed areas.

A vast extent of sand and Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach

The wide beach here extends for eight miles, dominated by 235-foot Haystack Rock. The town, originally known as Elk Creek, was renamed in 1922 for a cannon lost by a US naval vessel in 1846 and found again in 1898. Two more cannons from the same source were found in 2008.

Ecola Creek Natural Area, wastewater ponds, and RV parking

Ecola Creek Natural Area, wastewater ponds, and RV parking

A small natural area and two large wastewater ponds provide prime birding on the inland edge of downtown Cannon Beach. This is also a much appreciated parking area for oversize vehicles such as motorhomes.

Mo's Restaurant on Cannon Beach in Tolovana Park

Mo's Restaurant on Cannon Beach in Tolovana Park

Mo's is an institution on the Oregon coast, the seafood and chowder place that people visit the coast especially to dine at. It was founded in Newport in 1940 and additional restaurant's have been added in Otter Rock, Lincoln City, Cannon Beach, and Florence, plus an annex to the original in Newport. My favorite is here in Tolovana Park, just south of Cannon Beach. You can see Haystack Rock north up the beach.
