One of the most striking floral displays was along Highway 58 at the base of the Temblor Range. Thousands of people came to see, and trample, the flowers. This is private land outside the boundaries of the national monument.

Yellow daisies form a dense bed of flowers on low hills at the north end of the Carrizo Plain. Much of this land is privately owned but very little development has occurred. Its appearance during a super bloom is very different from the rest of the year, or in dry years.

Simmler Road follows a low ridgetop between the main part of the Soda Lake and a seasonal extension to its south. It is only in exceptionally wet years that either one of these lakes has open water.
