Castroville
California

Castroville, a rather drab farm town in the fog zone of Monterey Bay, has two claims to fame. First, as the arch over the main street proclaims, it is The Artichoke Center of the World, and second, the queen of the 1948 Artichoke Festival here was a young woman named Norma Jean Baker, soon changed to Marilyn Monroe.
