Though almost the entire island belongs to either the Catalina Island Company (developed areas) or the Catalina COnservancy (natural arreas), long-term leases have been granted to youth groups and yacht clubs.

The West End Road contours above the low cliffs and loops behind the developed coves. Nearly flat and with almost no traffic, it is perfect for walking or cycling. It leads to the beach campground at Parsons Landing.
