Stormy weather on the north Chaco roadThere are two roads to Chaco across the Navajo Reservation, both of them long and unpaved. It is surprising that so many people persevere and make it to Chaco. We had some interesting weather on our drive out.

Fajada Butte at ChacoFajada Butte is the site of a unique astronomical alignment of stones and windows in the rock. The way it marks solstice and equinox events with spiral petroglyphs was only discovered in 1977. It has been closed to public entry since 1980.

Stormy weather on the road to ChacoStormy weather on the road approaching Chaco from the south. There is no main road to Chaco, all three possible routes involve driving sometimes rough or muddy unpaved roads.
