Reverend Walter Colton built this public building, the finest in California in its day, with tax money and convict labor. It was where delegates met to draft the first California state constuition. The lower floors are still city offices, the large upstairs room is a museum.

El Camino Real Marker at Colton Hall

El Camino Real was the road that connected the Spanish missions and civil settlements in California. Its approximate route was marked with cast-iron bells like this in 1906-12. The support post resembles a Franciscan friar's walking staff.
