Miner's caves in Shoshone

Early in the twentieth century a series of underground dwellings were carved out of the banks of Dublin Gulch near Shoshone. Miners, hobos, renegades, and hippies have lived in the primitive shelters until the 1970's.

A row of miners' caves in Dublin Gulch

The miners' "caves" provided protection from both the summer heat and the winter cold. Some had multiple rooms and one even had a garage. Stovepipes can be seen protruding from the top of the bank.
