360° VR Panoramas of Lake Tahoe, Northern Sierra, and the Gold Country
Desolation Wilderness Area
Eldorado National Forest, California

The Desolation Wilderness within Eldorado National Forest is the closest true high Sierra wilderness to the Bay Area and thus sees heavy use.

A popular enty into the wilderness is from Echo Lakes. A trail leads around the lakes but most hikers take the small boat ferry to the far end and hike from there. It is a steady uphill to the broad basin in which lies Lake Aloha.
