360° VR Panoramas of the Sacramento Valley
Folsom
Sacramento County, California

Folsom is located on the American River where it flows from the foothills into the Sacramento Valley. The first railroad in the west was built from Sacramento to here and now serves as a branch of Sacramento's light rail transit system. Famous Folsom Prison is a few miles upstream.

The Folsom Powerhouse generated electricity from the American River from 1895 to 1952. Its 22-mile overhead transmission line to Sacramento was at the time the longest in the world. The powerhouse is now preserved in a state park.
