360° VR Panoramas of Las Vegas and Southern Nevada
Hoover Dam
On the Colorado River east of Las Vegas, Nevada

One of the engineering wonders of the world, Hoover Dam was the tallest in the world (726 feet/221 meters) when completed in 1936. It was also the first to tame the mighty Colorado River. It is still a sight worth seeing and is the most popular day trip from Las Vegas, with guided tours going down inside the dam to the powerhouse.

The main highway still crosses on top of the dam, though a new bridge is under construction just downstream. The uptake towers each have clocks on them, reflecting the fact that the Nevada-Arizona border runs between them - Nevada is in Pacific Time and Arizona in Mountain Time. But since Arizona does not observe daylight savings time, the clocks are an hour different in winter but the same in summer.
