Jolon Store

Jolon was an important town in the 1870's but faded when it was bypassed by the railroad, and mostly razed or relocated when Fort Hunter Liggett was created in the 1940's. Now only the old store and the church remain.

The adobe built by Antonio Rameriz in 1849 became the nucleus for the town of Jolon. When the railroad displaced the stage route the town almost disappeared.

A Sheridan tank at the entrance to Fort Hunter Liggett. This was a light tank from the 1960's that was designed to be air-dropped and could also swim rivers.
