Tule Elk ReserveThe subspecies of elk known as tule elk came close to extinction by the 1860's. When draining marshes near here in 1874 land baron Henry Miller's men discovered a remnant herd of 28 elk. Miller protected them on this site and they have since been successfully re-established in other parts of the state.
