360° VR Panoramas of the San Joaquin Valley
Kings County
San Joaquin Valley, California

Kings County was carved out of giant Fresno County early in the 20th century. Most of the county lies in what was once Tulare Lake, now drained and converted to agriculture. It was the site of the Mussel Slough Tragedy in 1880, a conflict between wheat growers and the railroad, described in Frank Norris' classic novel The Octopus: A Story of California.

The county's economy is dominated by large scale corporate agriculture, supplemented by several state prisons, and the huge Lemoore Naval Air Station.
