Silver Spike Memorial near Langtry

In 1883 railroads built east from Arizona and west across Texas met here, near the Pecos River High Bridge. This completed the Southern Pacific's southern transcontinental railroad, and was commemorated by the driving of a silver spike.

Inside the Jersey Lilly Saloon

Inside the Jersey Lilly Saloon

Named for singer Lillie Langtry, but the name was mis-spelled by the sign painter. This was both a saloon and Judge Roy Bean's courtroom, where he "dispensed hard liquor and harsh justice" in his role as "the law west of the Pecos". This is the original saloon on its original site - there are also two replicas, in San Angelo and Pecos, Texas.

This is the authentic Jersey Lilly Saloon, named for singer Lillie Langtry, the "Jersey Lily" by Justice of the Peace Judge Roy Bean. Judge Bean was literally the "law west of the Pecos" and a legend in his own time.
