360° VR Panoramas of Mount Shasta and the Klamath-Trinity Mountains
The McCloud River Canyon
Shasta-Trinity National Forest, California

Below the waterfalls this beautiful river is trapped in a dismal power generation reservoir.

The McCloud River Canyon is steep and V-shaped, with very few roads and lots of big trees. The only flat spot of any size is at Ah-Di-Na, an Indian campsite that became a fishing camp for wealthy families. It is now a public campground, and a mecca for serious fly fishermen.

Below the dam the river is briefly reborn for a stretch considered one of the best trout streams anywhere. In fact a nineteenth century fish hatchery here was the original source of rainbow trout now planted around the world.
