360° VR Panoramas of El Camino Real
Mission San Miguel
In the Salinas Valley, California

This is one of my two favorite California missions, along with San Antonio. It is not mobbed with tourists, like Carmel and Santa Barbara. It is in a small town, conveniently located along Highway 101 (El Camino Real). It has been through many trials and it is lucky to have survived.

The glory of the mission is the elaborately painted interior of the mission church, created by the Salinian neophytes under the direction of Esteban Munras. Frescoes cover the walls, including trompe l'oeil columns and alcoves. The brightly colored altar features the all-seeing eye of God.
