The Totem Pole is an extraordinarily thin butte 420 feet (128 meters) high. Next to it is the formation known as Yei Be Chei, which to the Navajo resembles a group of sacred dancers exiting a hogan.

Gusty winds roared through this gap when I was there. Two young Navajo men on horseback arrived to help an older man pack up his display of jewelry for sale and take down the tables and awnings before they blew away.
