360° VR Panoramas of Marin and the North Bay Counties
Mount Tamalpais
Marin County, California

This is the ultimate hikers' and mountain bikers' park. It is loved, defended, and fought over by fiercely dedicated partisans of those forms of enjoyment.

There is an extensive trail system on Mount Tam, which extends in all directions into watershed land and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. There are people who hike (or bike) there every week, or every day, and never hike anywhere else.

Mount Tam is often brilliantly sunny when most of Marin and San Francisco is dismally cloudy. Its environments range from temperate rain forest with ferns and redwoods, to rounded grassy hills and slopes, to steep ridges clad in impenetrable chaparral. The views from the East Summit are superb, well worth the half mile hike from the end of the road.
