For a town with a population of only 16,000 Natchez has a staggering number of impressive historic buildings. Downtown buildings vary from New Orleans-style balconied row houses to porticoed antebellum mansions. Some unwise demolition and redevelopment has occurred, but also a good deal of conscientous preservation.
