New Denver on Slocan Lake

New Denver on Slocan Lake

This tiny city park is on the shore of beautiful Slocan Lake. New Denver was the site of a World War II Japanese internment camp, housing up to 1500 Japanese-Canadians. There is now a Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre. Another internment camp in the 1950's was for children of the Doukhobor sect removed from familes who refused to allow them to attend school.
