Old Town Yellowknife
Yellowknife, The Northwest Territories

Yellowknife began as a supply base for gold mines far in the interior. The oldest buildings are scattered over a high outcrop of glacially smoothed bedrock.

Seaplanes are moored on both sides of the small peninsula, and a cluster of houseboats are permanently moored nearby. Despite some very upscale new buildings there is a raffish air to the neighborhood that contrasts with the main town nearby.
