360° VR Panoramas of Northern and Central Nevada
The Ruby Mountains
Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, south of Elko, , Nevada

Located just south of Elko, the Ruby Mountains may be a surprise to people who think that all of Nevada is desert. High enough for lots of snow, these are spectacular high mountains with alpine meadows, aspen groves, and glacial cirque lakes. Biologicially it is an island of Rocky Mountains species, surrounded by sagebrush desert.

A road follows up Lamoille Canyon to the heart of the range, with trails leading from there into the wilderness along the crest. On the southeast side of the range there is popular Ruby Lake in the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
