Salt Point State Park protects six miles of the Sonoma coast, 6000 acres of unspoiled coastal scenery. There are long stretches of coastal prairie, and low cliffs noted for sandstone tafoni (honeycomb weathering). Inland, a fine forest of bishop pine and tan oak gradually merges into redwood and Douglas fir, a large upland prairie, and one patch of pigmy forest.
