360° VR Panoramas of Marin and the North Bay Counties
San Rafael
Marin County, California

San Rafael is the county seat of Marin, and sprawls across several ridges and valleys. The original settlement was on San Rafael Creek above the small harbor (now known as the Canal).

Mission San Rafael Arcangel was the first mission to be established north of San Francisco, and the next to last ever (1817-22). The original mission buildings are completely gone, but a simple chapel was built in 1949 to represent it, next to a large Catholic church and school complex.
