San Simeon
California

San Simeon was just a tiny coastal village until William Randolph Hearst began construction of his palatial "castle" just inland on "La Cuesta Encantada". San Simeon became a busy base for construction and a port for import of building materials, furnishings, and tresures destibed for the castle.

Today San Simeon proper consists of the old country store, a couple of Hearst Ranch residences and warehouses, and the state park beach and pier.
