360° VR Panoramas of Marin and the North Bay Counties
Bridgeway and Alexander Avenue in Sausalito
Sausalito, Marin County, California

Bridgeway is the main drag in Sausalito - it was originally the highway leading to the Golden Gate Bridge and runs through town end to end. There is a beautiful stretch right on the shoreline south of downtown, and two restaurants stand on pilings over the water. No visit to Sausalito is complete without a stroll along the waterfront. Best of all is to have dinner here and watch darkness fall and the lights of San Francisco across the water come on.

At the very south end is the former Valhalla, once a restaurant and bordello run by colorful madame Sally Stanford. She had a pet dog she named Leland, after the governor, and knew everyone who was anyone in San Francisco and Sacramento. Continuing south as Alexander Avenue the road leads to Fort Baker and the bridge, a favored bicycle route.
