360° VR Panoramas of Lake Tahoe, Northern Sierra, and the Gold Country
The Sierra Buttes
North of Sierra City, Tahoe National Forest, California

The Sierra Buttes rise 3000 feet directly above Sierra City on the Yuba River. Their flanks are lushly forested, but the higher elevations rise as bare rock. The Pacific Crest Trail passes at their base, and a side trail leads to the fire lookout perched on the highest pinnacle. The lookout is no place for acrophobes - it is reached by a series of steel stairways, which though perfectly safe, jut out over thousand foot drops.
