360° VR Panoramas of Lake Tahoe, Northern Sierra, and the Gold Country
The Sonora Pass Highway
Tuolumne County, Stanislaus National Forest, California

East of the town of Sonora the Sonora Pass Highway threads a long series of summer cabin towns and mountain resorts, recreation lakes and campgrounds. Like many trans-Sierra routes it mostly follows ridgetops rather than rivers.

At 9624 feet (2933 mters) Sonora Pass is the second highest Sierra crossing, after Tioga Pass in Yosemite. There are no ski resorts along this route and the highway closes in winter when the snow gets deep.
