360° VR Panoramas of El Camino Real
The Upper Nacimiento River Valley
Los Padres National Forest, California

The Nacimiento-Fergusson Raod starts near Mission San Antonio and runs for miles through a superb oak parkland. Unfortunately it is all military land and there is no hiking, or even stopping. It is only when the valley narrows and begins to ascend towards the headwaters of the river that you can get out and look around.

The road follows the river then ascends along the steep canyon slopes until it reaches Nacimiento Summit on the coast ridge. There are two campgrounds along the way, Nacimiento and Ponderosa.

The western portion of this fantastic road is covered in the Central Coast region of this website.
