This is the north-easternmost region I plan to cover in my grand plan to document western North America. In the summer of 2013 my travels took me to Montana and North Dakota, so adding a bit of Saskatchewan was easy. I didn't have enough time to get far north of the border, but it was still very worthwhile.
Parks Canada has done a great thing in creating Grasslands National Park, preserving a sample of prairie landscape and ecology that was close to disappearing on both sides of the border. Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is a unique forested island rising above the sea of grass, with amazing views all around.
