Railroad and highway bridges over the MIssissippi at Vicksburg

Naval artillery based here commanded the Mississipi River during the Civil War, effectively cutting the Confederacy in half. Note the narrow roadway next to the railroad tracks, used by highway 80 until construction of the second bridge. It had signals to make it one-way only for trucks.

The Historic Seven Mile Railroad Bridge in the Florida Keys

An excellent view of the historic Seven Mile Bridge built for the Overseas Railway in 1912. After the railroad was abandoned the Overseas Highway utilized some its bridges. There wasn't enough width between the girders at track level on the Seven Mile Bridge so the roadway was built on top.
